Welcome to J. D. Young & Sons. Our story began in the 1980's when I was hired by an international furniture
company to run their operations in Brazil. During my nine years in Brazil I ran a wholesale furniture business
and started a retail business, which evolved into 63 stores. I also met my wife Renata and our boys were born
there. Brazil provided a fantastic opportunity to learn about and work with exotic woods and veneers. It also
provided an opportunity to work with furniture designs that were part Latin and part European. At the
conclusion of my nine years in Brazil, we moved to the Philippines, where I took over a furniture manufacturing
facility, consumer finance company, and franchise dealer network.
After a few years of running this particular operation and working with several Asian manufacturing facilities,
I decided to start my own company making high-end furniture. For the first three years of my company I worked
almost exclusively in Asia on the manufacturing side to make sure that the very high level of detail required,
such as exotic veneers, detailed hand carvings and multi stepped finishes could be achieved on a consistent
basis. Once I was satisfied that our manufacturing capabilities could meet our demanding specifications, I
began to travel back to the United States to develop the import and dealer network. Today we base our U.S. operations
in High Point, North Carolina.
Our pieces are defined in one of three ways:
. Differentiated Traditional: our pieces make use of exotic veneers and unexpected materials from the far corners
of the globe. They make a statement within their design category but with stimulating and refreshing styles not
found elsewhere.
. Transitional: our exquisite items and growing number of collections exhibit very clean and crisp lines
accented with exotic veneers.
. Contemporary: we began with one simple cocktail table that together with additional pieces, has garnered
once unimaginable success; and in some very conservative areas of the country!
